Hills - Group
The Hills group has been in existence for many years and was set up to provide networking and training options for all Justices of the Peace across the Hills area generally. It became a smaller group several years ago at the commencement of the Central Hills group. It was seen to be somewhat impractical to engage members as a group when the catchment area was as wide spread as Cockatoo Valley to Palmer, Aldgate to Cudlee creek.
Our group meets four times a year, the last Monday of March, June, September and November. In 2017 we will be holding training meetings in March and June, these to be held at the Torrens Community Centre at the rear of the Gumeracha Town Hall. The topics for these sessions are chosen by our members at the start of year. Our AGM is held in September at the Cudlee Creek Tavern and as 2017 is an election year, all positions will be declared vacant prior to the new executive being elected. The final meeting will be the Christmas dinner to be held at the Blumberg Hotel in Birdwood. Our guest speaker for that night will be Michael Sachsse JP who will be giving a follow up talk on his experiences in Afghanistan.
An additional service provided by the group is the provision of a signing room every Tuesday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. This is manned by five of the Hills group Justices of the Peace and carried out at the Torrens Community Centre at Gumeracha.
An opportunity to attract new members and create an awareness raising of the role of a Justice of the Peace will be taken up at the Mt. Pleasant Show on March 18th, from 9.00p.m. to 3 p.m. Eight volunteer JP's from the Hills Group will be manning the desk to provide a signing service as well as advising of the role and the process leading to becoming a JP. As this Show is very vibrant and well attended, we are anticipating a good number of people interacting with us.
We warmly welcome any newly appointed Justices of the Peace in our localities to contact us for any further information.
