We are a not for profit association enabling authorised witnesses to serve the South Australian and Northern Territory communities.
Justices of the Peace perform an irreplaceable service to Australian communities. They witness, certify, and affirm on behalf of ordinary Australians every single day, for free, quietly, and without recognition. The RAJSA exists to ensure that every JP has the support, knowledge, and connection they need to do that work with excellence and confidence.
The Royal Association of Justices of South Australia traces its origins to 8 August 1898, when a large gathering of Justices convened in the Reception Room of the Adelaide Town Hall. Presided over by the Lord Mayor, Mr Chas Tucker MP, the meeting resolved that a Justices' Association be formally established for South Australia.
From its founding, the Association was animated by a purpose that remains as relevant today as it was in 1898: to elevate the administration of justice by inspiring in its members higher ideals, a profound sense of responsibility, and a commitment to knowledge and excellence — captured in the enduring pledge, "I will do right to all manner of people after the laws and usages of this State."
More than 125 years on, RAJSA builds on that legacy with a clear vision for the future: to be the recognised peak body supporting and empowering all Authorised Witnesses across South Australia and the Northern Territory.
