About Justices of the Peace
A JP is someone of good standing in the community who is authorised to perform a range of administrative tasks. Generally speaking, a Justice of the Peace only acts in relation to a document which is to be used within Australia. A document that is to be used outside Australia should be witnessed by a Notary Public.
A JP is appointed by the Attorney-General of South Australia. The powers of a JP are granted under the Justices of the Peace Act 2005 and Justice of the Peace Regulations 2006. The duties of a JP are found in a range of Acts of Parliament.
